DSMA  2011 Winter League Rules

 All ASA rules apply with the following DSMA exceptions: 

1. Start with a 1-1 count. No extra foul.

2. Home Run Limit:  1 per team then "1-up" - One team can never be more than 1 home run ahead of the other team (e.g. If team A hits a home run, they cannot hit a 2nd home run until Team B hits a home run); disallowed home runs will be ruled an "out".

3. Stealing is allowed in Men’s leagues only.

4. Uniforms do not need to be like colors. Numbers are not required.

5. Lineups must be turned in to scorekeeper 5 minutes before game time.

6. Traditional batting order or “bat-the-bench” may be used.

7. Bats:  May use any current ASA- or USSSA-approved bat. 

8. Balls:  Game balls will be supplied by DSMA
9. Pitcher Protection” rule in effect:  Any ball when directly hit (i.e. line drives) places the pitcher into a defenseless mode and either hits the pitcher or glances off the pitcher’s glove or clothing will be considered a violation according to the “pitcher protection” rule and will result in the following penalties:

   1^st occurrence (either team) – warning to both teams

   2^nd occurrence (either team) – dead ball, batter is out and ejected

   3^rd occurrence  – forfeiture of game by offending team

   Balls that strike the ground first may be included in this rule interpretation.

10. Coed defensive positioning is not regulated, so men and women can play any position that they want to.  However, all outfielders must be equidistant from home plate; i.e. they must all play at about the same depth instead of 1 or 2 playing short on a batter. This rule is being used on a trial basis in the Winter League and may be adopted for all of our 2011 leagues.
11. Run-rule: 20 anytime/15 after 4 innings/10 after 5 innings.  Flip-flop rule is in effect.  Extra innings will be played with  “1-pitch”.

13. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in City parks.  No drinking alcohol during the game, in or outside the dugout, or in the stands.  PENALTY: Immediate ejection from game.
